A new place starts to feel truly familiar when we are no longer looking for sights but for everyday life: where we go shopping, when the shops open, what people eat here. We write about everyday life in Torrevieja based on the town’s official websites, and we only say what is stated there.<\/p>\n

The Friday market.<\/strong> According to the Torrevieja town council’s website, the town market is open on Fridays, from 08:00 to 14:00. It is a general market; the site mentions 500 stalls and says that parking in the area is easy. According to the town’s tourism website, the Friday market is on Avenida Delfina Viudes, next to the water park. The council’s site does not detail exactly what goods are on offer; the tourism site mentions fresh produce, clothing, accessories and miscellaneous goods.<\/p>\n

The Wednesday market.<\/strong> According to the tourism website, there is also a market on Wednesdays in La Mata, on Avenida de Francia, with a similar range of goods. The site does not give the exact opening hours, so it is worth checking the local information before you go.<\/p>\n

Shops and shopping centre.<\/strong> According to the tourism website, the town centre is the main commercial area, with pedestrian streets. Shops are typically open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and then from 16:30 to 20:30, but this may vary from shop to shop. The Habaneras shopping centre is on Avenida Rosa Maz\u00f3n Valero and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00, including on authorised public holidays. The site does not say whether the central shops are open on Sundays or public holidays. Winter sales run from early January to March, and summer sales in July and August.<\/p>\n

What do people eat here?<\/strong> According to the tourism website, the local cuisine is built on fresh fish and seafood, and also uses vegetables and fruit from the Vega Baja, the gardens along the lower Segura. It highlights two traditional dishes: caldero, a silky rice cooked with rockfish and served with alioli, and octopus, which is linked to the town’s seafaring tradition. The site also lists regular gastronomic events: Pastel y Caf\u00e9, Men\u00fas de Cuaresma, De Tapas and Arroces de Torrevieja. It does not give dates or restaurants.<\/p>\n
